CEARÁ
Located in the Northeast of Brazil, a little below the line of the Equator, half-way between Europe and North America, Ceará has an area of 146.348 km² in which 573 km of those are Atlantic Ocean’s coast. Divided in two, east and west, the coast reveals amazing beaches, coconut trees, colorful and cliffs, swamps, etc… The East coast, also known as Sol Nascente, is ideal for the practice of surf and regattas. Visitors can enjoy beaches such as Porto das Dunas, where Beach Park – the largest water park in Latin America - is located, and also be enchanted with the colored sand found in Fontes beach, the international Canoa Quebrada and many others beaches such as Caponga, Uruaú, Prainha, Iguape, etc…
The route of sun, sea and magic is also known as Sol Poente coast. Located at the West side, it takes about 2/3 of the Cearense coast and has in its dunes, cliffs, ponds and lagoons some of its most significant features: wide beaches, which many of them are still in primitive condition and are generally inhabited by fishermen communities that preserve their traditions. Moveable sand dunes, dancing among the river, sea and lakes… Ceará still keeps its secrets, such as Jericoacoara, Cumbuco and Lagoinha. The beauty of the beaches, nature, and the happiness of its captivating people make indescribable scenery of unique landscapes in the world.
Ceará’s population is about 7.417.402 (2000 last research). Here, the sun shines for 2.800 hours a year and the sea water is always warm. Its sea breeze constantly softens the temperature, keeping an annual average between 23º and 30º C. A lot of sun, sea and also many beaches make Ceará the international tourism entrance gate - one of the main tourist destinations in Brazil’s northeast area.
The Cearense craftsmanship is one of the most diverse of Brazil, with lacework, embroidery, labyrinths, braided work in straw and lianas, ceramic, wood, leather, and many other handmade works, like the hammock that became Ceará's point of reference.
The Gastronomy is also another wonderful attraction. A menu for all tastes with food that goes from seafood to tropical dishes that reveals to be truly, such as panelada, baião-de-dois and tapioca. Flavors that can be sampled all over Ceará and that are easily found in Fortaleza, besides a varied international cuisine. |
