The last day of the qualifying fase
at the Radial Open & Women confirmed the lead
of russian Igor Lisovenko e expectations about
american Paige Railey. Both are in first place
with a three point advantage over their runners-up.
After six races, was put away the worst result
from each one of the 165 sailors, counting the
other five. The classification defined the gold
fleet. The top 45 at the Open and the top 38 at
the Women will continue to pursue the title. The
other ones will keep sailing to find out their
final position at the World Championship. Eighteen
brazilians made the Open gold fleet and none the
Women.
Igor Lisovenko is seventeen and
finished second in the 2005 european circuit.
He was supposed to participate only in the Radial
Youth, from december 10th to 17th, for athletes
under-18, but arrived in time for the Open and
now is a strong title candidate. The windspeed,
that went up to 12 knots after two days below
10, didn´t affected his outcome. ‘’I
don´t worry about if the wind is lighter
or stronger. I only care about a good or bad result’’.
said. Brazilians took from second to fifth place,
with Eduardo Couto, Daniel Jakobson, Tiago Rodrigues
e Andreas Perdicaris.
At the Radial Women, Paige Railey
made worthy all the prospect about her before
the championship. The north-american, that won
five of the seven competitions she was in this
year, has the regularity as her best quality so
far. Even without winning any of the races, she
took the lead based on a higher average position
than the opponents. ‘’ I’m not
thinking about the title yet. The winds got stronger
and for now i plan to stay among the first positions’’,
says. German Petra Niemann comes in second e former
leader Sarah Blanck fell to third position.
The races goes on until Friday.
The points from the qualifying fase will be added
to the ones of the next six races, and each sailor
is entitled to one discard before the final classification.
